Bills Must Be Paid Hammers: The Trade-Off Guide

The trade-off axes, the shop ladder, and when a hammer is worth buying.

01

Quick answer

Hammers: no straight upgrades — pick by playstyle, ladder runs $4K to $10M

Hammers are not linear upgrades (VERIFIED: developer-stated trade-offs). They trade damage, swing speed, crit chance, and hit radius. The shop ladder runs $4,000 → $50,000 → $250,000 → $1,000,000 → $10,000,000 (VERIFIED screenshot), and buying every shop item is an achievement (Bought It All). Rule of thumb: a Hammer is worth buying only when it changes how many piggies you kill per run — not just because it costs more.

Hammer matrix

The trade-off axes

AxisHigh on this axisCost of going high
Crit chanceBig burst killsSmaller hit radius — more precise aim needed
Hit radiusClears clusters easilyLess damage per swing
Swing speedMore swings per stamina barMore misses if your aim is off — and miss resets combo
DamageFewer hits per piggyUsually slower or smaller radius

Community fit: aggressive, accurate players like crit builds; players who clear crowded desks prefer radius; new players should stay on the starting Hammer until accuracy achievements (Not a Single Miss / Twice as Precise) are done.

Shop ladder

What the ladder looks like

The shop shelves show hammers from $4,000 to $10,000,000 plus décor items up to $210,000 (VERIFIED screenshot). There is no "correct" endpoint — the $10M Hammer is a completion goal (Bought It All + Maxed Out territory), not a mid-game requirement. Buy a Hammer when it creates a breakpoint you can repay before the next bill.

FAQ

Hammer FAQ

Q: Is the most expensive Hammer the best?
A: No — the trade-offs are real (VERIFIED). A $4K Hammer that fits your aim can outperform a $50K Hammer you constantly miss with.

Q: When should I buy a Hammer?
A: When the desk is full of piggies that survive several hits, and the new Hammer would cut hits per kill enough to repay itself before the next bill.

Q: Does the starting Hammer matter?
A: Yes — its slow swing helps lock in the two early accuracy achievements (Not a Single Miss, Twice as Precise) before speed makes precise placement harder.

Q: Do hammers carry over cycles?
A: No — like skill tree nodes, they reset at bankruptcy. Permanent power is rings/bracelets only.
